Democracy North Carolina owns and operates the state’s premier nonpartisan voter hotline: 888-OUR-VOTE (888-687-8683).  Our hotline is available Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. throughout the year. Callers may ask questions about how to register to vote and cast a ballot in North Carolina or report voting problems.

Hotline volunteers receive online training and answer calls via an online platform from their homes.  Volunteers are required to:

  • Have a law degree, be currently enrolled in law school, or have prior experience answering a nonpartisan voter hotline
  • Be able to serve a minimum of THREE shifts between April 28th  and May 27th (shifts are four hours long, typically 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. with both weekday & weekend hours);
  • Have access to a computer with reliable internet access and a headset with a microphone
  • Have basic computer/internet skills and the ability to troubleshoot problems
  • Be able to attend a two-hour online training
  • Be able to interact with voters in a calm, nonpartisan manner
