In recent years, through illegally gerrymandered voting maps and unconstitutional voting restrictions, politicians in Raleigh have attempted to hold on to their political power by undermining North Carolina voters’ access to the ballot. Unfortunately, they’re at it again.
Lawmakers appear ready to file a bill that would resurrect voter ID, part of North Carolina’s discriminatory 2013 Monster Voter Suppression Law. That voter ID requirement was rejected by a federal court, but legislators could try to bring it back by placing it on the ballot in November as a constitutional amendment.
That’s right: the same lawmakers responsible for an illegal voter ID law that federal judges found targeted African-Americans “with almost surgical precision” now want to permanently add it to our state’s constitution.
It’s time to make your voice heard.
