NCGA Calls for Public Input on Legislative Mapmaking

THE NCGA IS TAKING YOUR INPUT ON LEGISLATIVE MAPS

On July 26, 2017, the Senate Standing Committee on Redistricting announced that the N.C. General Assembly would be taking public input on criteria for redrawing unconstitutional legislative maps. Lawmakers announced they plan to have public hearings on redistricting process during special sessions over the next several months.

They’ve provided an online submission form for public comment.

Democracy North Carolina supports a process for drawing political district maps that is:

  • fair and open;
  • avoids racial or partisan gerrymandering; and
  • allows voters to pick their political representatives, not the other way around.

We urge the N.C. General Assembly to support a redistricting process that follows those guiding principles.
