VOTING RIGHTS GROUPS REJECT REVIVED ANTI-VOTER MEASURES
RALEIGH, N.C. (11/17/21) — In a rushed process, North Carolina legislators have made moves to revive a variety of anti-voter legislation aimed at creating barriers to the ballot and rolling back decades of voter freedoms. Under the guise of so-called “Election Integrity,” Senate Bill 326, Senate Bill 725, and House Bill 259 are trying to rationalize anti-democracy efforts to further suppress voters, particularly Black, Latine, Asian American and Pacific Islander, and Indigenous populations. The NC House is expected to vote on Senate Bill 326, Senate Bill 725, and House Bill 259 tomorrow. This comes without warning and without transparency, just weeks after lawmakers passed racist, partisan maps and pushed through a problematic budget.
Multiple statewide voting rights and social justice advocacy groups, including Democracy North Carolina, ACLU of North Carolina, Emancipate NC, Common Cause NC, Forward Justice, North Carolina Asian Americans Together, and El Pueblo, will gather to discuss how these bills will directly impact already under-resourced communities, and further limit voting access for all North Carolinians.
