Announcing Adrienne Kelly as Executive Director of Democracy NC

MORRISVILLE (May 9, 2025) – The Board of Directors is delighted to announce the appointment of Adrienne Kelly as Executive Director of Democracy North Carolina, effective May 2025.  For over 7 years, Adrienne has proven her ability to navigate Democracy NC through an ever changing political and financial ecosystem as we address the most pressing issues in voting rights across the state.
“The board firmly believes that Adrienne Kelly possesses the qualifications to lead our dynamic staff of policy advocates, researchers, and organizers,” states board chair Marcus Bass. “Adrienne has demonstrated the sound judgement and necessary skills to help us face these unprecedented times.”

“I am grateful and humble for the opportunity to lead this stalwart organization,” said Adrienne Kelly. “I have always believed in one person-one vote, and that all voices are to be honored at the ballot box and in their respective communities. Democracy NC has shown itself, for over 30 years, to be steadfast in defense of democracy; advocating for legislative and administrative policies that advance voting rights, voter access and voter safety, working in and with communities. I look forward to leading our staff and advancing our collaboration with donors, volunteers and partners in this critical work for our state.”

As North Carolina grapples with challenges to election results, changes in election administration, and unceasing threats to voting rights, the board is confident that Adrienne is the right person to steer Democracy NC’s fight for a meaningful democracy. We ask that you join us in congratulating Adrienne on her new role as Executive Director of Democracy North Carolina.
