Statement from Cheryl Carter and Adrienne Kelly, Co-Executive Directors of Democracy North Carolina
Morrisville, N.C. (6/24/2022) – Reproductive rights are fundamentally connected to voter freedoms.
Overturning Roe V. Wade is not just about politics. This is about the right to bodily autonomy and the personal choices of our people. This is about our rural communities, people of color, and those without access to affordable health care.
This is about fighting for collective liberation here in North Carolina. And when the rights of anyone are attacked, that path toward liberation is at risk.
No matter what certain justices on the Supreme Court decide, we still have the power to push for personal and reproductive freedoms — by casting our ballots, making our voices heard, and supporting organizations that are providing equitable healthcare to vulnerable communities.
Democracy North Carolina is a nonpartisan organization that uses research, organizing, and advocacy to strengthen democratic structures, build power among disenfranchised communities, and inspire confidence in a transformed political process that works for all.
