The next attack on our democracy is here — a voter ID constitutional amendment announced on June 7. On Tuesday, June 12, at 6 p.m. Evans Metropolitan AME Zion Church will be hosting a 2018 Fair Votes Revival — a night for speakers, music, and fellowship around making sure that everyone has access to the polls, this year, and every year.

For too long, we’ve had to stand back and watch voting and other rights of the people in Southeastern NC and all of North Carolina be threatened. Politicians in Raleigh have now announced that  they want to resurrect part of North Carolina’s discriminatory 2013 Monster Voting Law. That law was rejected in federal court, but legislators could revive voter ID by placing it on the ballot in November as a constitutional amendment. That’s right: the same lawmakers who drafted an illegal voter ID law that the federal court found targeted African-Americans “with almost surgical precision” now want to permanently add it to our state’s constitution. And they want you to do the dirty work. It’s time to stand up!
